In fall 2024, we launched Boldy Illinois, the strategic framework that will help us to capitalize on our momentum now while we look ahead to where we want to be in 2030.
The Boldly Illinois strategic framework builds on the university’s values, goals, vision and mission; encourages us to align efforts and move in directions that are most needed; and challenges us collectively to exemplify the spirit and energy of our institution.
Campus conversations involved thousands of people and included two summits, multiple brainstorming sessions and virtual feedback.

Looking Beyond
Illinois is redefining the role of a land-grant university in the 21st century and beyond. Being bold requires new ideas and new ways of thinking. The Boldly Illinois framework includes resources and examples as Illinois students, faculty, staff, departments, committees or teams begin to identify, plan and prioritize bold ideas.
A truly bold university is one that is determined to use its momentum to move fearlessly forward. It is also unafraid to critically and honestly examine its past to shape a more strategic and more equitable future for everyone. This university needs to be bold and imaginative in reshaping research and practice by recognizing that our land-grant educational responsibilities to a 21st century society means rethinking some long-held traditional practices at our university.
